Family, Photos & Almost Famous Assholes

On Sunday the 5th of November I went to LAX, on my way to finally see my little sister again after three months. It would be the first and only visit from the homefront. As I got at the right terminal, it was all one ugly mess. LAX is never a pretty airport with nice reception halls but this time they were renovating on top of it. It was a mess, but at least they were clever about it. One sign read “I bet we finish our construction before you finish your screenplay.” Hehee. These are the times I realize I’m in a city unlike any other. The only city in the world were 90% of the population is in the same industry. But more on that later…

So as I saw people coming in the bagage area from a different location I asked them where they came from and I discovered it was the flight my sister was on. I ran in the direction where everyone was walking from and arrived at an escalator. And then I saw my sister. But something was amiss… Continue reading

One Year of Blogging Anniversary!

sixthandmain On October 3 2010 at 6PM I posted the very first entry to this blog. Out into nowhere, no idea if anyone was ever going to read it. I didn’t really want to start blogging, felt like it was a dirty thing and felt super self conscious about it. I thought it was just for housewives who wanted to chronicle the lives of their cats. A post-modern phenomenon for people who felt their everyday thoughts and behavior were worth writing about.

But I had so much to share! I was about to start working full-time and work towards my LA adventure and couldn’t imagine there weren’t others wondering and dreaming about the same things as I was. So here we are, one year later. And in one year, what has changed? Continue reading

About An Actor: Emma Stone

EmmaStonephotoshootWho? Emma Stone

Type: Goofy girl

First Noticeable Role: Superbad

Breakthrough: Easy A

Lucky Bitch or Ass-Off-Worker: Definitely a girl who took a lot of initiative on her own, but was lucky in the fact that she was supported by her parents.

Emma joined a local theater group at the young age of 11 in her hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona, and performed in a dozen of productions with them. She was even home schooled for a while so she could tour around with them. Then, at age 15, the ever-sassy Emma made a Powerpoint presentation for her parents in which she tried to convince them to let her move to Los Angeles, Madonna’s Hollywood playing in the background… Continue reading

New Weekly Column: About An Actor

CareyMulliganphotoshootAs a starting actress I look at news about famous actors in a different way. I wonder: How did they get their start? Did they work their ass off or were they just lucky?  Even though every actor has a different story and there is no formula for succes, there’s always something to take away from the biographies of working actors.

And because I suspect I’m not the only one who thinks that, I present to you the new “About an Actor” column  in which I will post a little background info and some of my observations about an actress/actor every Monday. If you share yours we can maybe build an understanding about what makes different actors special!

Up this week: Miss Carey Mulligan… Continue reading

New Year, New Lay-out & New Useful Links for Actors!

Last week I moved around all the furniture in my apartment to make it look brand new and this week it was time for this blog to get pimped! I got a little bit bored of my last lay out, it was too white, so I spent today photoshopping an orange yellow-ish pattern for this new lay out. Would like to hear your thoughts! Too orange yellow-ish now? Miss the pink? Let me know!

Also, I created a page with useful links for actors. For now you can find links to acting schools that I attended or visited both in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. Soon I will also add links to guesthouses I stayed at, things to do when you’re in LA, blogs of other actors and so on. I’ve created this page -actually, this whole blog- to help people like me on their way. Therefore, if there’s anything else that you would like to see on this site, be it links or subjects for posts, don’t hesitate to say so! I already have some exciting new stuff planned, but I am always looking for feedback. Thanks and enjoy the last hours of your weekend 😀

Have a Gleeful Christmas!

In between playing in the snow, Christmas shopping, working, slipping on the ice-covered streets in Amsterdam and preparing for my coming trip to Los Angeles I probably won’t have time to start writing about the third time I went to Tinseltown. But I still want to wish you all a…

Hi all! I’ve been experimenting with Photoshop and came up with this new banner. I’m very curious as to which one you all think is better/nicer/shinier. So take a vote in the poll and elaborate in the comments if you can!
